Day 14

Two weeks in and I'm starting to forget what it was like before all this...

I've voiced my concerns with Sam about the time it is taking us to get to the station. I reckon at the rate of safe progression, 2/3 days until we reach the bridges, then we have the whole problem of what do we use as a safe place to hide then...

We've made slow progress today, hampered by Rani activity. We didn't get spotted, which is always good, but it's just a bit weird in my opinion. I'm still injured and Sam is totally new to all this and has only encountered a large number of Rani twice so far. We shouldn't be avoiding them that well. My concern is they are being distracted by something, maybe even someone that we have missed...

However good news. In the residence we have today I found one high powered air rifle. According to the box good to 150 metres. I tested it and I am seriously impressed. A sniper rifle replica with simulated bolt action. Its not great for fast firing but it took out a Rani a good 120metres down the street. I've not had much practice with projectile weapons but I think I'll be keeping this. Other upside: 2000 'rounds' in a box for it, and both together add a ridiculously small amount to my weight. Sam prefers the golf clubs, I don't mind her having them I'm not all for hand to hand style combat.

Day 2
I woke early, to the sound of trees blowing in the wind and some crashing. I slowly gained my senses, realising the days before had actually happened. I sat up then froze completely, worrying that I had just given away my position to some of the monsters about. I pulled my headphones from the walkie talkie to put into my mp3 player to see if it could pick up any radio. Finding my presets I scrolled through until...
"The time is 6.41am and here's another update, the end is still here. I'm on the road in a van broadcasting when I should be in my studio, but I'm sorry, as I've said, we have to get to anywhere safe. The last reports described these things as 'Reanimated Sapiens' though already nicknamed 'Reanimates' but fuck that listeners they are just..." Here I took the headphone out, I couldn't bare to listen to the word even then. I realised that there was more crashing, and tried to focus on where it was coming from. In horror as I scanned the area, there was only one place that it could be coming for.
"Oh shit" was all I managed before I climbed down the tree, grabbing my things as I went. I knew I couldn't stay here again I just couldn't bare it. I ran to the door of his house realising that I couldn't get through that way. So I ran round for the back paths, reaching his house again. I saw what had doomed him. Looking at the back both he and his terraced neighbour shared rooms extending from their house, but only on the ground floor. The neighbour had tried to fight a family member and ended up smashing through their window above that. Scott had left the window there open, I really don't know why. I saw blood trailing from one window to the next as I climbed. What drew it here? Noise, smell? I looked at the bloodied window of his house, took a deep breath, thought to myself; am I really brave enough? And took a step inside, paused, breathed again laughed a little realising how surreal all this was, and stepped all the way in, closing the window to; screw getting caught on an escape route by another. I walked deeper into his house.

Day 14
It's been a long day of avoiding the Rani, and as I've said I haven't been sleeping, Sam has triple checked my quadruple checked secured entrances and confirmed three exit routes to immediately take, and is currently writing by torch light, though now I've pointed out how dangerous light is at night she has covered herself in a waterproof coat from a man I can only think was XXXL. That or sleep deprivation has got me and it really is a tent...
I think I may sleep better with a rifle by my side, even if its not got any gunpowder in it...

I hope you make another day
